TWP Writing Studio Appointment Policies

  • Due to our desire to serve as many students as possible, the TWP Writing Studio limits the number of appointments writers can have on the same piece of writing.
  • We do not read work in advance for online sessions; instead, all work takes place during these 45-minute sessions.
  • Studio consultants will usually only work with you three times per piece of writing. If you feel you need more than three visits for a particular document, please talk to your writing consultant to generate an appropriate plan.
  • Dissertating writers are welcome to visit more than three times for the dissertation as a whole. You and your consultant will make a plan for the number of appointments that are appropriate for each section or chapter.
  • Appointments are marked as no-shows when the writer is 10 minutes late to the consultation.
  • Online appointments function similarly to face-to-face appointments but with interactions conducted through text chat. You will log into the online appointment software (click on your appointment in the calendar and click "join online appointment") and you and your consultant will be able to chat in real time and view a shared document. Please have any writing ready to upload in case you'd like to share it with your consultant. Please do not upload a document in advance of your online session.
  • Asynchronous online appointments, or ETutors, are only available to DKU students, Duke students who are located in a time zone OUTSIDE of the continental U.S. (Atlantic, Eastern, Central, Mountain, Pacific, or Alaska), athletes traveling for athletic purposes, or other Duke students traveling for Duke business. If you believe you are eligible for an asynchronous appointment, please explain your eligibility in the appointment form. These consultations are only appropriate when there is a draft, not for brainstorming. For E-Tutor appointments, please upload a file.

If you have any questions, please email writingstudio@duke.edu.
